Marilyn's life was short, she died at the age of 36 surrounded in rumours of adultery and drug abuse. She was believed to have committed suicide, having suffered from depression and loneliness; she had attempted suicide in 1950 and had been treated for a nervous breakdown in 1961. Marilyn died August 5, 1962 in her home from a barbiturate overdose. Marilyn was laid to rest at Westwood Memorial Park in L.A., California. And as the song goes, her candle burned out long before her legend ever did.
