Norma Jean's homelife was problematic, and set her up for a life full of failed relationships. Her father was never listed on her birth certificate and her Mother was incapable of caring for her. She was shuffled through foster homes, her best time living with a friend of her mother's who could keep her after her husband was transferred to another location. She endured abuse at the hands one of her later foster parents and married to escape the foster system. She married boyfriend Jimmy Dougherty at the age of 16 in 1942. When he went to war, she worked in a bomb factory where she was discovered by a photographer. That was her big break.
She later married baseball player Joe DiMaggio, there married resulted in no children and ended after a short period of nine months. He remain her throughout her life. She whirlwinded through a number of failed relationships. Her career continued and she married playwrite Arthur Miller, during which she suffered 2 miscarriages. They were divorced in 1961 due to scandalous rumours of her infidelity. She died in 1962. Her friend Joe Dimaggio is said to have had roses delivered to her gravesite for the next 20 years.
